As the wings of economic liberalization spread, it encompasses in itself the globalization of Indian Economy, eliminating political boundaries and providing immense opportunities in a world wide scenario. Infrastructural development, healthcare and quality education, are spelled as the top priorities for a globalised India. Since its establishment in 1910, Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences (Formerly Allahabad Agricultural Institute Deemed University) has been involved in training and teaching hundreds of international students from the Middle East, South East Asia and several African countries.

In the recent years Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences (SHIATS), has achieved the distinction to be among the top universities in India and South East Asia. The university is moving towards greater heights and looking forward to collaborate with several universities in the developed countries such as USA, Canada, European Union, Japan and Australia. The diversification of education is being felt as a challenge and ongoing efforts of international collaboration is definitely defining the high standards of education the university is striving to maintain. The borders are opening, and students are receiving greater opportunities to study at a university abroad. To be able to meet the competition of their peers, academic institutions will have to develop an ever-better international reputation. Scientific institutions wishing to prepare their students for an international career will be responsible for imbuing the level and content of their curricula with an international dimension. Keeping in view, the internationalisation of the university, following appropriate international activities are undertaken, building up and maintaining a strategically chosen network of foreign partner Universities / industries, faculty and student exchange with foreign partner universities / institutions , offering non-mainstream courses to foreign target groups, International curriculum development, collaborative academic and research programs with foreign universities / institutions, exchange of scientific expertise and information, internationally recognized system of internal quality assurance.

International Association of Universities


The Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Rev. (Prof.) R.B. Lal attended the 13th Annual General meeting and Conference of International Association of Universities at Utricht, The Netherlands. The broad topic for the conference was to draft Policy for Higher Education and Research addressing Local and Global needs. Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences is a member of International Association of Universities.

national Placement

A two member delegation of Irrigation Trade Middle East LLC consisting of Er. Rene Stephen General Manager, and Er. Charles, Project Engineer, both distinguished alumni of College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology visited Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences from 2-4 June 2008. As per the requirement of ITME LLC, interviews were conducted and eight students of College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology and College of Engineering and Technology were selected for International post in the Middle East.

INTERNATIONAL VISITS OF FACULTY MEMBERS OF SHIATS

-:- Dr. D. M. Denis, Member Secretary, International Secretariat, and Prof. (Dr.) Ramesh Chandra, Dean, Warner School of Food and Dairy Technology, attended the Education Fair at Colombo, Sri Lanka, from 15th Oct, 2010 to 17th Oct, 2010.
-:- Dr. D. M. Denis, Associate Professor, Dept. of Soil, Water, Land Engineering and Management, attended the International Conference, Shanghai, China to present two of his research papers from 18th Sept, 2010 to 24th Sept, 2010. He also had a meeting with Dr. Fang Xianfa, Chief Engineer at the Chinese Academic of Agricultural Mechanisation Sciences, regarding International Partnership in meat processing.
-:- Prof. (Dr.) M. Imtiyaz, Vice Chairman, International Secretariat, visited the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand from 3rd September to 7th Sept regarding the Unified Bachelors Masters Programme and to explore further areas of affiliation.
-:- Prof. (Dr.) M. Imtiyaz, Vice Chairman, International Secretariat and Dr. P.J. George, Professor and Associate Dean, Dept. of Natural Resource Management, visited the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand from 8th August, 2010 to 23rd August, 2010 in order to discuss and materialize on the Unified Bachelors Masters Programme and initiate talks regarding the Signing of MoU between SHIATS and AIT ( Annexure II)
-:- Dr. (Sr.) Marion Mathew, Head & Professor, Grace Zaman School of Education, participated in the International Conference on “Women's Memory work Gendered Dilemmas of Social Transformation” from 24th - 26th August 2010 at University of Limerick, Ireland.
-:- Mr. Swapnil Shrivastava, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Mathematics and Statistics, visited the Novosisibirisk State University Summer Camp held at Novosisibirisk State University, Novosisibirisk, Russia from 27th July, 2010 to 7th August, 2010
-:- Prof. (Dr.) E. P. K. Das, Professor, Allahabad School of Agriculture, participated in International Conference on “Communication and Citizenship : Rethinking Crisis and Change” from 18th 22nd July 2010 at Universidade do Minho-Campus de Gualtar, Braga, Portugal.
-:- Dr. (Sr.) Marion Mathew, Head & Dean, Grace Zaman School of Education, participated in "International Conference on the Environments and Policies of Learning Multiple Languages Simultaneously in the Age of Globalization" on 5th December, 2009 at Taipei City, Taiwan.
-:- Er. Jyoti Srivastava, Asst Professor, Deptt of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, participated in "International Conference on Large Power Transformers Modem Trends in Application, Installation Operation and Maintenance" Organized by CIGRE at New Delhi from 25th to 26th November 2009.


VISITS OF FOREIGN DELEGATES

-:- Prof. Said Irandoust, Hon'ble President, Asian Institute of Technology, visited SHIATS on 3rd November, 2010 as the Guest of Honour for the 100th year Convocation and to initiate the discussion with Prof. (Dr.) R.B. Lal, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, SHIATS, regarding signing a Memorandum of Understanding between SHIATS and Asian Institute of Technology.
-:- Dr. A.M. Numan, Director, Trans Asia Educational Consultants, New Delhi, visited SHIATS from 2nd November, 2010 to 3rd November, 2010 regarding the admission of foreign students.
-:- Prof. (Dr.) Vilas M. Salokhe, Vice Chancellor, Kaziranga University, Jorhat, Assam, visited SHIATS from 2nd November, 2010 to 4th November, 2010 for the signing of Memorandum of Understanding between SHIATS and Kaziranga University, Assam.
-:- Dr. Peeyush Soni, Assistant Professor, School of Environment, Resources and Development & Coordinator, Agri. Business Management Programme, Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok and Dr. Ganesh Shivakoti, Professor, School of Environment, Resources & Development, Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok visited SHIATS from 28th October, 2010 to 3rd November, 2010 as special guests for the 100th year Convocation and to make presentations regarding the Unified Bachelors Masters Programme amongst the students and explore new possibilities of affiliation between SHIATS and Asian Institute of Technology.
-:- Mr. Tensing Rabgyal, Senior Program Officer, External Relations and Communication Office, Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand, visited SHIATS from 27th to 30th September, 2010 for discussing in detail the Unified Bachelors Masters Programme with the Deans of Faculties and Heads of Schools.
-:- Ms. Merran Davis, Dean of the Faculty, Waikato Institute of Technology, Dr. Surya Pandey, International Research Relations Director, Waikato Institute of Technology and Mr. Michael James Keir, Engineering Consultant, Waikato Institute of Technology, New Zealand, visited SHIATS from 31st August 2010 to 1st September, 2010 in order to explore avenues of joint ventures and research programmes with SHIATS.
-:- Dr. Faris Naji A'bud, Assistant for Scientific Affairs, University of Babylon, visited SHIATS on 1st August 2010 to 4th August, 2010. Dr. R. B. Lal, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, on behalf of SHIATS signed an MoU with the University of Babylon on 2nd August, 2010 for technical collaboration, knowledge sharing and student exchange programmes. He also had one on one interaction with the students from the Republic of Iraq studying in various programmes at SHIATS.
-:- Mr. Jigme Palden, Training Coordinator CIDT, ASSP Department of Agriculture, Thimpu, Bhutan, visited SHIATS from 29th may 2010 to 31st may 2010 regarding the admission of students and further strengthen the ties between SHIATS and Ministry of Agriculture, Bhutan.
-:- Mr. Gasasira Janvier, Coordinator SPSPAT/ KWAMP Rwanda and Mr. Lawrance Das, International Student Coordinator, Embassy of Rwanda, visited SHAITS from 24th May 2010 to 25th May 2010 in order to review the performances of the Rwandan students.

Higher studies in Foreign Universities / institutions

-:- Er. Aditya Lal, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Agriculture Process and Food Engineering, has been sponsored by the University under the Faculty Improvement Programme in the year 2011-2014 for Ph. D. in Food Engineering and Bioprocess Technology at the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand.
-:- Er. Anjelo Denis, Junior Lecturer, Dept. of Soil, Water and Land Engineering, has been sponsored by the University under the Faculty Improvement Programme for M.Tech Water Engineering and Management programme in the year 2010-2012 at the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand.
-:- Mr. Stephen Das, Personal Secretary to Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, has been sponsored by the University under the Faculty Improvement Programme in the year 2010-2011 for Dual Degree in MBA Finance and CFA full time at the London School of Business and Finance, UK.
-:- Er. Rahat Khan, Head & Associate Director, School of Film & Mass Communication, has been sponsored by the University under the Faculty Improvement Programme in the year 2009-2010 for M.Sc. Programme in the field of Media Technology at University of Bradford, UK.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

As per the results of the ongoing efforts of the International Secretariat to increase the number of International Students at the University, the students from, Namibia, Libya, Iraq, Nepal, Bhutan, Ethiopia, Ghana, Uganda, Korea, Myanmar, Rwanda have joined SHIATS for various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The total number of international students has risen up to 245. SHIATS is also looking for new avenues such as China and Sri Lanka from where a large number of students are expected in the academic year 2011-12, mainly in the Department of English and Foreign Languages and Department of Computer Science and Information Technology.

VISIT OF INTERNATIONAL ALUMNUS DURING THE CENTENARY YEAR CELEBRATION

On the occasion of completing hundred years from establishment, the University hosted the Centenary Year Celebration from 25th October to 29th October, 2010. The celebration was graced by the presence of alumnus spread across the globe in large numbers, who were invited to the office of Prof. (Dr.) M. Imtiyaz, Vice Chairman, International Secretariat, for interaction.

INTERNATIONAL SEMINARS

-:- International Secretariat organized a seminar on “Higher Studies in United kingdom” on 20th November, 2010. Fr. Chris Bishop, Reader, Post Harvest Technology, Writtle College, United Kingdom and Ms. Alexandra Nemeth, International Recruitment and Alumni Relation officer, Writtle College, United Kingdom chaired a session on the opportunities and scope of higher studies in UK.
-:- International Secretariat organized a seminar on Unified Bachelor's Master's Program between Asian Institute of Technology & Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences on 28th October, 2010 and 29th October, 2010. Dr. Peeyush Soni, Coordinator, Agri Business Management, School of Environment Resources and Development, Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand and Prof. Ganesh P. Shivakoti, Professor, School of Environment Resources and Development, Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand gave a brief on Unified Bachelor's Master's Program and Interacted with the students regarding admission and financial assistance to pursue higher studies AIT.
-:- International Secretariat along with the United States India Education Foundation, New Delhi organized a one day seminar on 'Higher Studies in America' on 30th August, 2010. Mr. D.K. Verma, State Career Counselor, Directorate of Training and Employment, Lucknow, Ms. Rupali Verma, Education Advisor, United States India Education Foundation, Ms. Gayatri Singhal, Education Advisor, United States India Education Foundation and Prof. (Ms.) Ranjana Prakash, Chief, University Employment Board, University of Allahabad were the guest speakers of the workshop.
