Amongst the basic sciences, chemistry concerns itself with composition, properties, constitution and mutual interaction of different kinds of matter. The 21st century is regarded as an active era of chemistry and is of great importance. New plastic, synthetic rubber, novel metal alloys, synthetic vitamins, antibiotics, steroids, dyes, fertilizers, etc. have revolutionized the science and technology.
Time is moving fast and so is science. With the advent of computer, information technology, it is difficult to keep pace with it. With the adoption of the new slogan “Jai Vigyan” there should be a laying emphasis on science at all stages of education and sincere and consistent efforts on the part of teachers and planners of chemical education in the country to improve the chemistry teaching. With this motto the department with its professional expertise in the field of physical, organic, analytical, dairy, engineering chemistry endeavor to structure its teaching and research. The courses offered by the department emphasize on understanding of fundamental concepts, and facilitates learning and application biochemical mythologies and analytical techniques. Thus, the department with its experienced faculty, impact relevant training to the young to develop their expertise, research ability and professionalism.

Lab Facilities

The department is furnished with two big under graduate laboratories, four postgraduate laboratories and two research laboratories. The course outline for the lab-periods at various levels is based on the theoretical aspects and provide students intellectual maturity and strength of purpose. The department is committed to excellence through teaching and research. The practical courses offered cover fundamental concepts, principles and adopt advanced techniques, which provide the students of U.G., P.G. and doctoral level a quality education. The programmes are designed to accommodate the interest and objectives of the students. The course structure followed by research programme for P.G. students trains them in planning, execution and data analysis. P.G and research students conduct original research and receive thorough training in investigative techniques by use of use of instruments like pH meter, conductivity meter, turbidity meter, photometer, U. V. visible spectrophotometer, Rotary Vacuum Evaporator, Spin Coater, Thickness Gauge, Permeability Tester, Water Vapor, Transmission Rate Apparatus, Hand Coater, B4 Cup Viscometer, Density Tester, Mechanical Stirrer, Peel Tester, Soxhlet apparatus, etc. in guidance by experienced faculty. The department continuously assesses the P.G. & Doctoral students by conducting seminars, which develop their abilities to reason and communicate at an appropriate level in this increasingly competitive, complex and challenging world.

Research Activities

Physiochemical evaluation of sewage discharges in River Yammuna. Bioaccumulation of Heavy Metals and their biodistribution. Pesticide and DNA Biosensors. Isolation, purification & characterization of Active principles in medicinal plants. Conducting Polymers, Biodegradable polymers.
The Department has produced about twenty research scholars till date and at present the scholars are pursuing their research under the able guidance of the faculty members in the following fields- Synthesis and Biological Activities of Hydrazones and Semicarbazones, Allele specific sequencing of Human Mu Opiate Receptor: Gene correlation with opiate abuse, Morphophysiological and Molecular Characterization of Improvement of Kalanamak, a small medium grained scented rice, Study of the quality of water from different resources in Allahabad, used for domestic and agricultural purposes, Dielectric Elastomer Actuator Based on Acrylic Rubber Modified with Silicone Rubber, Antiviral activity of Polysaccharides isolated from Asclepiadaceae plants, Study of novel methods for Pharmaceutical analysis and structure Elucidation of Drug used in the treatment of Cardio-Vascular disease, Antibacterial & antioxidative responses of gallic acid and its esters isolated from Acacia nilotica, Evaluation of antitoxic activity of glycoside aucubin isolated from plantin (plantago major) linn.
