The Department of Microbiology &
Fermentation Technology, SHIATS has made a colossal impact in microbiology
by exploring new linkages of learning by providing opportunities for sharing
scientific knowledge at Undergraduate, postgraduate and Doctoral level. The
department has kept pace with recent advances in the various sub-disciplines
of microbiology revolutionizing growing recognition of the enormous degree
of microbial diversity and their various applications. The department has
competent and experienced faculty members fostering a culture of
collaboration among colleagues with specializations in various fields of
Microbiology. Further, the department prepares students for diverse careers
in academia, government and industry. The curriculum consists of courses
that provide instruction in the conceptual and methodological aspects of
microbiology. During the past our students have brought accolades and
attained laurels for both the Department and themselves, in the country and
abroad.
The department provides various facilities that include a Microbial culture
collection bank that has been established with the objective of supplying
identified microorganisms for research and practical purpose. In addition,
the technical society in the Department, “Society of Microbiologists”,
provides a platform for the overall personality development of students by
promoting academic, scientific and extracurricular activities.
Irrefutably, the Department of Microbiology and Fermentation Technology
stands tall in the realization of its mission.
Lab Facilities
The Department houses separate laboratories for undergraduate, post graduate
and doctoral scholars, uniquely equipped with sophisticated equipment for
research to study various aspects of microbiology.
Research Activities
The teaching and research portfolio of the Department covers the full range
of current concerns in Microbiology. The major thrust areas of research
includes Infectious diseases, Antibiotic Resistance Pattern, Probiotics,
Natural Antibacterial Agents (Medicinal and aromatic plants),
Bioremediation, Role of Biofertilizers and Biopesticides, Water Quality,
Quality of Food Products, Microbial Enzymes and Molecular Characterization
of Infectious Agents
