Since inception, the Department of Computer Science & Information Technology
has been dedicated to create an innovative academic environment, which
focuses on the overall development of students. Besides academic courses,
research and innovation are given due importance. The department aspires to
reassert the significance of high quality education by producing competent
professionals who can shape the destiny of our nation. The academic
environment consistently broadens the technological base by way of upgrading
the infrastructure in emerging areas like broad-band communication (fiber
optic and wireless), networking, computer architecture etc. Eventually the
department hopes to emerge as a leading source of technical manpower in the
country.
Lab Facilities
The department has five working laboratories and a sixth lab is currently
being set up. Equipped with state of the art computers from IBM and Wipro,
IT Lab provides basic language computing facilities and application software
to the students. Multimedia Lab focuses on training students in multimedia
tools like Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Flash etc. to develop related
applications. The Linux lab, with Red-Hat enterprise distribution is used
for all the introductory, intermediate and advanced computer science and
engineering laboratory courses. The Internet Lab, apart from providing
Internet access to students, hosts practical classes for various
departmental and non-departmental programmes. The Networking Lab is
dedicated for design and analysis of modern communication systems and
focuses on both physical layer communication as well as higher layer network
issues.
Research Activities
The Department is involved in various research activities since its
inception. Some of the major thrust areas of research are Data Mining,
System Reliability, Data Hiding, Cryptography, E-Governance, Networking and
Communication and Information Technology. The faculty members
present/publish research papers at National/International conferences and
journals of repute.
