In recognition of the
impact of advanced technologies in Farm Machinery & Power Engineering, the
Department strives to promote the use of technologies for complex problem.
Farm mechanization in India has grown slowly and accelerated from 1967 when
green revolution took shape in India. Mechanization demands matching
availability of adequate farm power has been one of the critical inputs to
ensure timeliness of operations besides reducing drudgery in farm
operations. Traditionally, human and draught animal power has been used in
India for various tractive and stationary farm operations. The introduction
of tractors, diesel engines and electric motors has helped the farmers to
increase the unit of power.
Lab Facilities
The department has Farm Machinery, Farm Power, Renewable Energy and
Ergonomics lab which are fully equipped with all equipments and machines to
conduct practicals and research. The farm machinery lab is equipped with
modern and conventional animal drawn, tractor drawn and self propelled
machineries for various farm operations. The farm power lab has cut models
of various systems of tractor and engine, tractors and instrumentation
facilities for practical and research purposes. The department has well
equipped Renewable Energy and Ergonomics lab having various sophisticated
instruments that includes solar, wind and bio-energy equipments, noise and
vibration measurement equipments, anthropometrical equipments, tread mill
for human and animal and many other equipments for designing agricultural
equipments with ergonomic approach. The department also has a well equipped
workshop to cater to the needs of UG, PG, and Ph.D. students.
Research Activities
The department provides excellent facilities for basic and applied research
in the field of farm machinery and power, renewable energy and ergonomics.
