Department of Agricultural
Economics was established in 1920 with a view to impart course work for the
undergraduate students. In the year 1970, Postgraduate programme leading to
M. Sc. (Ag.) in Agricultural Economics was started under the leadership of
Dr. A. D. Wycliffe. Course work programme for Ph. D. was started in the year
2001.
Postgraduate programme in Agri-business Management was started in 2001. The
mission of the department is to equip students with requisite attitude,
knowledge and skills for managerial decision making and implementation in
the unique context of agricultural enterprises. including entrepreneurial
career.
Lab facility
A well equipped computer lab with internet facilities and library to
facilitate the students for practical and research works.
Research Activities
The department has conducted Research Project entitled “Economic Analysis of
Production and Marketing of Milk under Farm Conditions in Eastern Uttar
Pradesh” was conducted from Ist November, 2005 to 31st October, 2008. A
total of 240 milk producers were selected from a cluster of 12 villages in
four selected blocks namely Kaurihar, Suriawan, Rajgarh, Sangipur of
Allahabad, Bhadohi, Mirzapur & Pratapgarh district respectively.
The purpose of the present study was to explore some important aspects of
the production and marketing of milk.
The study was conducted to find out the share of the live-stock enterprise
(milk) in agricultural economy of the state, to determine the comparative
economics and resource use efficiency in the milk production, consumption
and disposal pattern of milk, the factors affecting the marketable surplus
of the milk and to find out problems / constraints faced by the milk
producers in production and marketing of milk. |
