Education is the greatest known catalytic agent for
social change and is the foundation for the overall development of the
nation. Development programmes which do not involve women cannot realize
their full potential. Higher education for women is important not only for
equal educational opportunities between the sexes but also for raising
women's productivity health, education and income levels of families.
Investments in higher education have higher rates of return. The economic
returns include a shift in the allocation of woman's time from non- market
to market activities.
The full significance of the education of girls lies in the development of
the human resources, improvement of homes and molding the character of
children during the most impressionable years of infancy. Hence education of
women is of even greater importance than that of men.
The college was established as a development program which will involve
women in realizing full potential towards enhancing the quality of living.
Due to our cultural and social heritage, some of the parents are often
reluctant to send their daughters in co-educational institutions. The lack
of separate institutions for girls inhibits their participation in
education. Therefore, it was felt that there is an urgent need to give top
priority to women's education in the coming years to ensure overall
development of the nation and to achieve this goal more and more women's
colleges need to be established. The Institute is situated at Naini,
Allahabad which is still considered as a backward area and its an irony that
Allahabad, being a seat of higher learning has not even a single Women’s
College at this side of the river Jamuna. Therefore, there is a dire need to
establish Women’s College to ensure quality education for women, deprived of
which the world would deny social justice equity and human rights for which
women are the sufferer more than men.
To commemorate the centenary of the University the college is named after
Dr. Sudha Lal Women's College, who is contributing to the women's welfare as
co-ordinator for over 15 years. She is the first lady and wife of Rev. (Prof
Dr.) Rajendra B. Lal, the first fonder Vice-Chancellor of the Deemed to be
University. Department of English, Hindi, Urdu, Sanskrit, Economics,
Political Science, History, Geography, Education, Psychology, Sociology,
Philosophy, Mathematics, Statistics, Music, Fine Arts, Office Management,
Archeology & Museology and Anthropology, Commerce, Computer Application are
