The Department of Biological Sciences is one of the
oldest and most active Department of the College of Basic Sciences. Our
mission is to achieve excellence in our scholarly pursuits and in our
teaching and training of undergraduate and postgraduate students. The
programs are designed to meet the needs of students with a variety of career
goals. The curriculum is rigorous and provides a background in critical
thinking, research, and communications skills. Field trips are a common
feature of some classes. Our postgraduate majors have successfully entered
careers in the life sciences in public, private and non-profit
organizations. The department offers academic programs leading to a Bachelor
of Science (B.Sc.), Master of Science (M.Sc.), and Doctor of Philosophy
(Ph.D.) degree. There are approximately hundred undergraduate and fifty
postgraduate students in the department engaged in study in a variety of
areas of the biological sciences. Teaching laboratories provide extensive
student experience with living organisms and experimental equipment.
Laboratory sections are kept small to ensure student interaction with
teaching staff. |

The Department of Physics was established with a vision for Excellence in
Physics Education. Now we have Bachelors degree programs and postgraduate
programs including M. Phil and Doctorial program. At the department of
Physics we emphasize on student learning by way of discussion, question
answer and dialogue.
Practical learning is encouraged by conducting a series of experiments in
laboratory. The labs are fairly well equipped.
Library is the heartthrob of any learning system and we are maintaining a
departmental Library where students are encouraged to spend as much time as
they can. We subscribe to about fifteen journals in addition to the Seminars
form part of the teaching learning process where current topics are
discussed. Exhibitions give a platform to the students to express what they
have learnt.
Field trips play an important role in giving a first hand experience of the
application of Physics on a large scale, such as thermal power
plants/Nuclear power plants. Besides this these trips help in the social
life of the department, when student and teachers are able to move with each
other like friends.
We have a well-qualified and active faculty.

Amongst the basic sciences, chemistry concerns itself
with composition properties, constitutions and mutual interaction of
different kinds of matter. The 21st century is regarded as an active era of
chemistry and is of great importance. New plastic, synthetic rubber, novel
metal alloys, synthetic vitamins, antibiotics, steroids, dyes, fertilizers
etc. have revolutionized the science and technology.
Time is moving fast and so is science. With the advent of computer,
information technology, it is important to keep pace with it. With the
adoption of the new slogan. “Jai Vigyan” there should be a laying emphasis
on science at all stages of education and sincere and consistent efforts on
the part of teachers and planners of chemical education in the country to
improve the chemistry teaching. With this motto the department with its
professional expertise in the field of physical, organic, analytical, dairy,
polymer, engineering chemistry endeavour to structure its teaching and
research.
The courses offered cover fundamental concepts, principles and adopt
advanced techniques, which provide the students of undergraduate,
postgraduate & doctoral levels a quality education. The chemistry department
offers courses to the students of all engineering branches, biotechnology,
agriculture, home science etc. Thus, the department with its experienced
faculty, impart relevant training to the young to develop their expertise,
research ability and professionalism. |
